Velká Deštná Observation Tower
The summit of Velká Deštná (1,115 m above sea level), the highest mountain in the Orlické Mountains, has been able since October 2019 to boast a modern lookout tower, which has quickly become one of the most visited tourist destinations in the region. This 19-metre-high tower, designed by architect Lukáš Svoboda, combines a steel structure with larch cladding and symbolizes natural elements such as wind and rain. The viewing platform at a height of 17.34 metres is reached by 96 steps.
The observation tower offers a panoramic view of the Orlické Mountains, the Giant Mountains, the Jeseníky Mountains, Králický Sněžník and, in good visibility, even Ještěd. It is freely accessible year-round. In the winter months, however, access may be limited due to snow conditions.
The most comfortable ascent to Velká Deštná follows the red-marked Jirásek Trail from Šerlich (approx. 4 km). More demanding routes lead from Bedřichovka or from Zákoutí in Deštné. The observation tower is also accessible from Deštné via the cable car.
